Halong Bay - Just Cruising

Halong Bay cruising can be one of the highlights of a visit to Vietnam.

Experience the joy of cruising Halong Bay

Halong Bay is a unique place. Studded with some 1600 limestone islands that rise up out of the usually calm waters, Halong Bay offers a great experience.

There is a wide variety of cruising options from the utmost luxury of vessels that offer private balconies, cocktails at 5pm, onboard fitness centres and spas, to the more standard “junk” type vessels that will still enable you to see the wonders of Halong Bay.

Our trip was on a mid range junk with comfortable cabins and fantastic food (but no spa or the cocktails!).

As well as the cruise boats you will see many local fishing boats on Halong Bay

Excursions and fine dining

Many of the Halong Bay cruising experience offer off-boat trips to some of the larger inhabited islands, and a trip to the famous Sung Sot Cave, also known as “Surprise Cave”, is one of the popular inclusions.  Maybe you would like to kayak through the narrow tunnel of Luon Cave and paddle around the enclosed lake (and spot some of the resident monkeys}. Or maybe just sit back on deck and enjoy the passing scenery and dining experience which aboard our boat was simply exceptional.

Many of the Halong Bay cruises will give you the opportunity to see the limestone islands up close.

Fine dining aboard the junk with most meals a three or four course of delicious asian food.

The only complaint we had about the trip through Halong Bay was the weather - overcast and a bit misty at times.

Phillip Island Extended – Tranquility shouldn’t be had in short bursts

Most visitors to the picturesque Phillip Island are day-trippers who come especially to see the penguins as they surf ashore at dusk and waddle up to their burrows with full tummies to feed their young. We made our visit a four-day trip to have a decent break, enjoy the peaceful surrounds and experience some of the gastronomical highlights of the island.
